I Have FINALLY Moved the Journey to WordPress Self Hosted!
Happy Thursday everyone!
As you can see, the layout of the site looks a little different today.
The reason?
I finally set aside all of my excuses and have moved My Personal Finance Journey from Blogger (where I’ve been for 3+ years) to WordPress Self Hosted. I’m using the Genesis Framework with the News Child Theme and very much like it so far!
Anyhow, this is just a quick post to humbly request that you bare with me for a few days while I get the kinks worked out on the new hosting platform. After that, I expect to be back in full force with a more reader-friendly platform that gives all of us better functionality.

Thanks for stopping by Michael. Glad you like the new look. I wanted to have a cleaner look, but not completely change the entire site feel.
I think it might be too soon to tell on the SEO right now since it’s only been a week. However, the good thing is that I think I was able to make the transition without losing too many of my links or having any downtime.

Thanks Zack! One question I did have was – how do you change the font size in posts? Do you need a plugin for that?

Jacob, you’ll want to go into you style.css file. That’s on the left side of your dashboard under appearance. Then search for “content” and you’ll see a piece of CSS code for your font-size. You are currently at 13px. Bump that up or down however many (probably 1-2 PX) px you want to change the size. Hope that helps!

I was actually wanting to have (if it’s possible) the ability to have multiple fonts in a post as I am generating/writing it. Is that possible? Or, is the font set on a site-wide basis with Genesis?

I’m surprised you were able to stick it out. I went two months on blogspot before the limited widget support, and the forced integration with Google+ really got to me and convinced me to head to WordPress.org

Thanks Pauline! It’s amazing how many spam comments I’m getting with WordPress compared to when I used Intense Debate.
What plugin do you recommend to control some that? Akismet?
Congrats on the switch! The site looks good. I just moved over to self-hosted wordpress about a month ago, and after a rough couple of days it’s worked out great.
Thanks Matt! I’ve still got quite a few things to tweak, but the major content/links/etc are finished.
What theme do you use?
I’m using Weaver II. It was pretty easy to setup, but my site design leaves a TON to be desired. That’s definitely on my list of things to figure out someday. When someday will come? That’s a good question.
Also, I saw your question to Pauline, and figured I’d let you know that I get no spam with Disqus. I know people have mixed feelings about it, but it’s been great for me.

Thanks for sharing about the spam Matt. I had Disqus a while back, and found it a little cumbersome. I’m actually doing pretty well now that I just added the little box at the bottom that says “check here if you have a pulse :)” haah
