Hello and Welcome!
My name is Jacob, a husband to a wine-blogger wife, father to two bouncy-boy toddlers, and I'm the owner/author of My Personal Finance Journey. By day, I am a scientist working in bio-pharmaceutical development. Personal finance has been my hobby since 2007 when I started teaching myself through books (that finance B.S. degree didn't teach me much!). Learning how to save, adopt a frugal mindset, and invest my own money soundly has allowed me to have a savings rate > 50%, increase my net worth by > 20 times, grow my career, and always do what I love. Check out the About Me page to learn more!

Back in January of this year, I laid out my short term, mid-term, and long term goals for the 2011 year.ย I do this once every year as part of my goal to create what author David Bach calls a Purpose Focused Financial Plan. The goal of this system is to employ money in your life in a way that matches your life values and dreams.
You can read more about my journey to create this system at the following links –ย Creating a Purposed Focused Financial Planย &ย My Personal Finance Journey’s Investment Strategy.
As part of making this system work, I wanted to give an update on how I’m doing so far this year with the goals I established. Overall, I feel that I am doing a satisfactory job. I got semi-behind on these updates (had to give a bulk one for the months of January-April, but this past month, I am much more on top of things! ๐ Let’s keep our fingers crossed to keep this up!ย
Short Term (< 1 year) Goals:
Mid-Term (3-5 years out) Goals:
Long-Term (>5 years out) Goals:
How about you all? How have the months of April and May been for achieving your goals? What are your next milestones?ย

Congrats on doing so well with your goals. That's great. We just revamped our budget to start working towards some of our goals like paying off our mortgage early.

Thanks for reading Miss T! That's definitely one of the things I'm working towards too. After I finish funding the Roth IRA, I'm going to focus hard on paying off big chunks of my condo home loan.

My recent post How To Pay Off 35-000 In Credit Card Debt In One Month
Hi Sam! I'm pretty far off right now, but I think it will be possible to accomplish during my lower 30's (I'm 25 right now). However, this grad school salary isn't helping! haha

You've put 3550 already in your ROTH – that is awesome! You have things pretty much under control!
Great job on the MS drive!
Thanks MoneyCone! It's been challenging with this grad student salary, but I've had some side income that has helped out!
Doing very well on the things I have direct control over! For example, increasing the number of days working out and becoming more patient. I have had a few setbacks regarding my quest to be in Wisebread's Top 100 financial bloggers. My ranking keeps changing and not always in the desired direction. I have 71/2 months to turn it around.
My recent post Would 12-000 Convince You to Move Closer to Work
Good to hear Krantcents! It's pretty tough to get on WiseBread's top 100 segment! I was looking at those rankings the other day, and was amazed how “low” of a ranking some of my favorite personal finance blogs have! Oh well, keep on keepin on right?!
Also – good for you getting to the gym more often! I've been bicycling more recently, and have been very happy!
