You all probably saw Cheapskate Jake commenting on you all’s posts submitted to this carnival (which I made him do to get his name out there! He threw up quite a fit at first, but I he eventually agreed to read you all’s post when I offered him a 30 pack of Natural Light). I have to apologize for any grammatical mistakes or rudeness that might have appeared in these comments, as Jake is from Frugal Holler in my home state of Arkansas and isn’t the most cultured or educated man on the planet.

Ultimate Cheapskate Story # 1
I used to work with a guy that was so cheap, on his lunch hour he would go to the news stand in the building, pick up the newspaper and stand there and read it. When he finished…he would just put the paper back and not purchase it.
The same guy was also married to an Orthodox Jewish woman. He could never say no to free food…and one year during the holidays, a law firm sent out holiday hams to their business partners.
Mr. Cheapskate accepted his ham…but couldn’t take it home. So he hid the ham in his parents garage…and would stop at the house after work for a few slices before heading to his home!
Another time he submitted an expense report to me for 59 cents ! Looking at this, I just reached into my pocket and handed him a dollar. I have a dear old aunt. She experienced the Second World War and knows how to be frugal. It is second nature to her.
At her latest birthday, she got a couple of boxes of chocolate. A week later I visited her. She had a bowl of hazelnuts sitting on the kitchen table. I thought nothing of it at the time.
During my visit, we had a piece of chocolate. My aunt took one bite of the chocolate and took out the hazelnut inside and placed it in the bowl. “I don’t like hazelnuts, but it would be a waste just to throw them out.”

My husband likes quantity and sales.
For example, we just moved, and in the process I ran across an old receipt from Wal-Mart. It’s a receipt for 366 pair of panty hose. Yes, that’s right: 366 pair of panty hose. Also on the receipt are batteries, motor oil, and oil filters. After seven years, I still have enough new nylons left to last me until January 2007. They were purchased in July 1999.
More recently, Pop found a bargain at Wal-Mart the week after Christmas. Fruitcake regularly $2.99 was on sale for $1.00 a loaf. The more you buy, the more you save. Pop saved $106.00.
