How to Quit Stressing About Money

The following is a guest post. Enjoy!

If you feel frustrated with your life because things are not working out for you, one reason for your frustration could very well be your lack of abundance. This scarcity may have less to do with the economy and more to do with spending more than you earn.

Once you take control of your finances, many of your problems will disappear. When you have more than enough money coming in, most of your stress will fall away. You’ll be able to afford many of the things and experiences that enhance the quality of life.

With that in mind, here are some strategies to protect your finances, grow your income, and tame your spending:

Get Insurance to Protect Your Finances

Many people whine about how much they pay for insurance. They are missing the point. Saving money by not spending it on sufficient insurance is a misunderstanding of the principles of financial management. Insurance is an opportunity to protect your finances.

For a modest premium, you can get tens of thousands of dollars of coverage. In other words, insure everything that you value and that you would hate to lose, everything expensive that would cost you a small fortune to replace.

Fortunately, it’s easy to shop for insurance online. For instance, if you just bought a car in Boston and need auto insurance, you can go to a directory-style website that allows you to compare car insurance rates from top insurers within minutes.

Create Multiple Streams of Income to Grow Your Income

It’s no longer necessary to rely on your day job alone to generate income.

Here are three ideas on how to create multiple streams of income while still working at your day job:

1. Side-hustle. You can create either an online or offline small business that makes money.

a. Online business: Create an online business to generate some passive income. If, for instance, you build a blog, then you can monetize it with affiliate links. You would only have to spend a few hours a week writing an article to keep the content fresh.

b. Offline business: Create an offline business by hiring people to do the work for you. You could, for instance, create a housekeeping service. After buying cleaning equipment, hiring people to go out to houses, and marketing to attract clients, your “job” would be to coordinate everything by phone.

2. Investments. Invest from your laptop. Besides earning an income from work, you could also earn an income through investing in the stock market or some other high-volume financial market that allows you to buy and sell online quickly.

Create a Budget to Tame Your Spending

The most effective way to ensure that you don’t spend more than you earn is to create a budget. Think of it as the foundation of your wealth-building project.

You need to learn how to budget whether you live from paycheck to paycheck or earn six or seven figures a year.

The idea behind budgeting is not to live a frugal, austere, and restricted life, only spending money on your needs and repressing all your wants. Instead, budgeting is an organizational system that allows you to allocate your money to the most important things in your life.

Without a budget, you are more inclined to buy things that you don’t need at all, such as comfort foods or vapid entertainment, and run out of money to buy the things that you need, such as money for food, medications, and shelter.

Manage Your Life

Many of the problems we experience in life appear to come from outside but are actually self-generated. By getting better at managing your life, you can reduce the problems that are keeping you up at night.

One of the things that are worth managing better is your financial life. With just a little thought, you can figure out how to protect your valuables, earn more, and spend your income wisely.
